Standing out, Astilbe Montgomery is a compact, clump forming perennial boasting dark magenta red flowers held in dense plumes. Blooming in early to mid-summer, each plume consists of hundreds of densely packed tiny flowers opening in succession for a long lasting floral display. They are held on upright, dark red stems and rise above an attractive mound of fern like, deep green, glossy foliage, which emerges bronze-red in spring. Long-lasting, the flower plumes turn a rich caramel colour which provides winter interest in the garden. This award winning Astilbe is relatively trouble free, requires little maintenance, is heavy shade tolerant, and attracts butterflies but is deer and rabbit resistant. This plant is perfect for heavily shaded areas with dappled shade.
